Week 30

Hello!

We are down to the home stretch! 10 more weeks to go (and grow). Baby is around 15 inches long, which is apparently the same length as...Benson! Baby's is a little lighter than the puppy, but the exciting news this week is brain folds, open eyes, and fully formed, teeny-weeny finger and toe nails. Mom and Dad still haven't committed to a name, and probably won't until she comes out, but we have decided to try a diaper service down here. They have simplified the process substantially (no more oragami with safety pins), so hopefully it will be about as convenient as disposables, at least while we are at home.

Thanks to everyone and then some, our Whaleys had a very nice Christmas this year. :) The little missy made out like a bandit (thanks GH and Pops :), and we now have a crib that will convert into her toddler bed and a changing table that will convert into her dresser. Good thing too, as she already has about the same volume of clothes than Sean and I have, combined. :) Among other things, Munchkin some cute Sesame Street books (thanks Auntie Brenna), Mom got some good books and a new way to read (thanks Sean), and Sean got a netbook, which is the best kind of book for him anyway, I guess. :) Benson has already destroyed half of his Christmas presents, while we're rationing the cat's so she won't lose the all the fake mice under the stove all at once. Now they both seem to be enjoying the cheapo clearance thing I found for Benson at Old Navy that I figured would last an hour, but is still going strong.

We are now getting ready for New Years Eve, which might actually mean hunkering down for some more white stuff. :) I thought that buying the giant bucket of Ice Melt would help, but hopefully the bad weather will be about over when the Whaleys come back through on their way back to FL.

Week 27, Baby Shower, and Snow!

Hello!

It has been a busy week! Almost all of my thank you cards are done so now I can start on Christmas cards, and bugging Sean about his birthday cards. :) I can also start putting baby's things into a little more order, although we probably won't have any good nursery photos until after Christmas. Yesterday at Babies R Us I found a nice crib set with sea animals, including whales, on it, but I'd like to see if they have a good after Christmas sale. Still, we are on our way--we are almost there!

Week 27 may or may not be the first week of the third trimester; some of the newsletters I get say that it is really Week 28. I can wait an extra week, I think, because as impatient as we all our to meet the little princess, it's hard to get that excited about the third trimester. :) According to my newsletters Baby is 15 inches and 2 pounds this week, which is almost as long as the front wheel of a Big Wheel. Baby also now has fingerprints and is starting to recognize sounds, like the Christmas music I play for her in the car, me singing along and Dad groaning about having to listen to Christmas music. :)

Also, since my last post, we have gotten a new, nice, fake Christmas tree. This will be our first Christmas at home since I will be a little too far along for traveling, and our first in our new house, so I wanted to get a tree that did NOT remind me of Charlie Brown. :) Interestingly, the cat enjoys climbing the tree, so we've put a fence around it that seems to be working out and will hopefully keep her out of the wrapping paper in a few weeks. I included a picture of the tree in the link below, but we still need to decorate it. I found the garland beads that I was looking for yesterday, so we have everything I was looking for except an ornament that looks like Benson. Amazon here I come. :)

And, to the great excitement of all (except maybe for Sean and anyone else that had to drive in Northern VA), it snowed this past Saturday! We put on Benson's red sweater and brought him out to see how he would do, and while he seemed to enjoy bounding through the drifts at first, his tummy got cold pretty quick and he waited on the stoop for his people to wise up and get out of the cold. My maternity coat is supposed to come in the mail today (we got a great deal on Cyber Monday), which is good because it's actually supposed to be chilly all week and may even snow again. The little missy normally keeps me warm enough, but better smart than sorry.

Now we are waiting for Friday so that the repairman will come and fix the (almost brand new) oven. I may start working on refrigerator and freezer dough during the week, but I'm really hoping that there isn't anything horribly wrong with the oven and that I will still get to do the Christmas baking in our first year in our new house. I have the toaster oven as a back-up plan, but it's not nearly big enough. :)

Happy Holidays!
